Come meet Geneviève Pratte at the Night of Galleries
On September 21st, at the Night of Galleries, you will have the chance to see the artist Geneviève Pratte paint at the Galerie Perreault! Here’s an interview to give you a taste of what’s in store for next Saturday!

Artist since childhood
The artistic talents of Geneviève Pratte appeared very early: “It seems to me that painting has always been in my life, says the artist. I was interested in crafts and drawing, and I got a nice acrylic paint kit when I was a kid. I was already interested back then in visual arts, drama and ballet. My parents encouraged my desire to express myself from an early age; there were no dreams too big! “
Abstract nature
Geneviève Pratte’s paintings are very unique, showing the abstract reality of the human impact on nature. Why abstract art rather than any other style? “The playground has no limit; we can create and do everything! My goal is to make interesting and dynamic paintings, and have fun doing them. It’s the process that matters: the days at the workshop are never the same. “
“Nature as a source of inspiration is an endless subject. I’ve a thirst for adventure and exploration, I love to lose myself in the seasons and in the landscapes; I believe it’s in my genes! The wonder of natural beauties touches me and is reflected in my paintings. I want to bring a little bit of discovery and wonder in this world with my paintings, a way to escape. Also, the human nature, our connection with the outer and inner nature interests me. “
A multi-faceted artistic expression
Geneviève Pratte doesn’t just paint: sculpture was also part of her life. “Sculpture is an exciting medium, but also very demanding on your body. Let’s say it takes a lot of energy, space, and equipment!” However, it is not only this form of expression that influences her painting: “My years of classical ballet have also contributed to the artist that I am. Maybe my love of sculpture comes from dancing – the interaction with space. In fact, I think the movements and gestures in the workshop form a spontaneous choreography! “
“The creative process is lived from day to day: the look, the smells, the taste, the movement of the natural elements. Everything can bring ideas! I have a great sensitivity and a great openness; I store feelings that I try to translate on canvas. It is spontaneity and intuition that serve me as a guide. It’s not always harmonious, but the creative process is vibrant and you have to let it shine.”
The different stages of her life have also influenced her art: “Becoming a mother has added a magic touch. I think about the chance to be alive; the chance to express myself everyday, to be able to call this my job. It doesn’t take much more to start the creative process and keep the playful and exciting aspect of art! “
