Pierre Bédard - Back to the list

At the age of fifteen, Pierre Bédard already knew what he wanted to do. He would be an artist. After completing a professional course in photography, Pierre studied fine arts at college but was unsatisfied with the teaching methods. He admits, however, that studies have given him a general knowledge of art.

For him, it is important to have an overview of art production in spite of the influence it may have. «You can’t teach yourself everything. It helps to glean what you can from outside and then to sift through all of the information to follow your own direction. Culture is a good way to progress.» Pierre Bédard would have liked to be an art teacher but the job opportunities just were not there.

In Pierre Bédard’s artwork, more than the subject, it’s the light, the mood and the composition that strike a sympathetic chord in the viewers. Pierre likes to recreate actual scenes with an impressionist touch. « I try to make my paintings breathe, to make them vibrate. »

For Pierre, hard work is the basis of artistic creation. «In this field, you need some discipline to make progress and get results. You have to paint everyday if you want your work to mature.» Hard work is the key but is not everything. «You have to be honest with yourself and with regards to what you do.»

Pierre would like to keep working and expressing himself through painting. «I want to give myself the opportunity to progress at my own rate, in a positive environment, and realize my dream : to paint. It’s a privilege to make a living with painting.»
